Photography is the art of communicating emotion - sharing the actual feeling of seeing the wonderful beauty of nature.
For years photography has been a hobby, but in the last few years it has become much more. Photography means “writing with light.” I’ve learned how to study light. It’s a lifelong study: light in the early morning, light when it rains, the harsh light on a sunny day, light at dusk, light in the evening and the absence of most light at night. I love studying the way light reflects off different objects and how the objects absorb the light, how it changes them.
As I compose through the viewfinder, I usually know what I want, but the small details are very important, it’s a matter of waiting for the light to get just right.
"I first met Vaughn in 2011 and I think it is true to say that when he spoke with me about showing his photographs in SoDu Gallery, I immediately felt both his joy and passion for Key West. Since that time, Vaughn has developed his art into a style all his own. He has learned to capture the essence of the nature that surrounds and envelops our little island. It is Vaughn Garner's imagination and creativity that makes his photographs come alive and are an inspiration, forever reminding us of how lucky we are to live on a tropical island." Karen Beauprie, Artist, owner and partner, SoDu Gallery, Key West
“The photographer is a joyous sensualist, for the simple reason that the eye traffics in feelings, not in thought.” Walker Evans (1903-1975).
